Both XWARN and GCARES plan to participate in the NVIS exercise on
Saturday. I am offering to host both groups in my back yard. More about
that, below.

I have a large shed (barn?) in my back yard that has space suitable for
setting up a couple of stations. I have a significant supply of trees
that have been trained to hold up antennas. With some coordination, we
should be able to put both groups on the air. Operation will need to be
staggered enough that only one transmitter is keyed at any given time,
but we expect to have enough equipment to support two full stations.
Usually, we only find success on 80m, but I will have 40m antennas
available. Actually, we could try other bands as I do have antennas cut
for 10-15-20-40-80.
So, both W8XRN and W8GCA will be active from grid EM79xq. The official
start is 10 AM, so we will plan to gather starting at 900 to get set up
and perhaps reduce the level of disorganization. The official end is
1600. I will make the site available for the full time, but we typically
tire shortly after noon and the number of participating stations falls
noticeably. You are welcome to arrive any time during this period, but
no guarantees that we will be very active for the whole time. There are
no plans regarding food and drink, but we can always make some after the
group assembles.
My address is 3852 Rosecliff Dr. Beavercreek 45440. (937-477-3431) It
would be best to park in the driveway--please pull as far forward as
possible to make room for more cars. If you must park along the street,
please try to park on the north side. Walk to the left side of the house
and through the gate to the back yard.
This activity is intended to be a learning experience, not a contest. If
you have a transceiver or antenna that you wish to try, bring it. There
is no problem driving stakes. We might be able to convince some of the
trained trees to cooperate. With proper coordination, we should be able
to put a third station on the air.
