For those interested in obtaining an FCC amateur radio license, the
Greene County Amateur Radio Emergency Service (GCARES) is offering an
Amateur Radio license class starting Sunday, February 18, 2024. The
class will meet from 7 to 9 p.m. each Sunday through April 21st.  A test
for all classes of licenses will be shortly after these classes conclude.

There is no charge for the class and Morse Code is no longer required to
obtain any amateur radio license.  The entry-level Technician class is
held at the Bellbrook Amateur Radio Club (BARC) Clubhouse, Room 1,
Sugarcreek Elementary School, 51 South East Street in Bellbrook.  No
experience is required and there is no minimum age required to earn a
Technician class license. To register for the class, you may email Jim
Gifford at KD8APT at gmail.com.

A textbook may be purchased from the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL)
at https://www.arrl.org/shop/Licensing-and-Education/ or from Amazon.com.

For those wishing to upgrade to a General Class License, classes will be
offered Sunday evenings from 7 PM to 9 PM starting on February 18 and
running through April 21, skipping March 31 (Easter). The class location
will be in Beavercreek, but the location has not yet been confirmed. If
you wish to attend the classes, please forward your contact information
to Bob Baker n8ado at woh.rr.com. He will advise of the class location.

There is no charge for the class, but we do ask that you obtain a copy
of the textbook "The ARRL GENERAL CLASS LICENSE MANUAL", tenth edition.
We will have a limited number of the books available for purchase ($27)
or you can order from the Amateur Radio Relay League (ARRL) at
https://www.arrl.org/shop/Licensing-and-Education/ or from Amazon.com.

A test session will be held on Sunday, April 28. Time and location to be
announced.
