Mountain Bike Race

Sunday, August 25, John Bryan State Park 8AM-4PM
(half day shifts could be arranged)
Lunch will be provided
Duty is monitoring checkpoints on the race course. Expect to use
handhelds on 2 meters. Six checkpoints need to be staffed and the
volunteer count is currently at one. Please help if you can.
Checkpoints are in the woods; transport from meeting point to assigned
spot will be provided via Gator.

Coordinator is Mark Avery KE8NHT mavery at sim-trainer.com

Tour de Gem Bike Ride 2024

Saturday, August 31  Mass Start at 9 AM, last bike expected to finish by
2 PM

Big changes from last year! (Return to previous format is planned for
next year).

Fewer riders (100 expected)

All riders will be on the bike paths between the start at Day Air
Ballpark and the turn-around at Xenia Station.
Round trip is 38 miles, but riders will turn around at whatever distance
they choose.
(There may be riders who choose to ride the routes that were used last
year, but they do not receive any support)

We will attempt to cover the five rest stops (nine, if you count the
return trip stops again)

It would be great if we could put a bicycle mobile operator on the
course as sweep, and use APRS to track.

There are other fixed spots that could use safety spotters (there are
roughly 20 roads crossed by the bike path).

We could provide a useful service by having a couple of SAG vehicles
available.

Lunch will be provided for all of the volunteers. Tentatively Moeller's
Brew Barn.

Here is an odd request:
The organizers are desperate to find a volunteer to drive the U-Haul
supply truck. I you would like to do that or have a friend who would be
willing to help the event, I can get you in touch with the event director.

Young's Charity Bike Ride

Saturday, September 7 Start at Young's Dairy 8 AM, typically finished by
4 PM.

We need a lot of volunteers to cover a lot of riders over a large area.
The course is all new this year. Part of the event is a fun ride from
Youngs down the bike path turning around just before Xenia and we could
use a bicycle mobile operator to sweep this section.

And...don't forget to sign up for the Air Force Marathon, if you haven't
done it already. It takes place on September 21. Instructions on how to
register are on the website: OHD3ARES.ORG (This site has other event
info, too!) Also, let me know that you have signed up, including any
special requests, by emailing to AFM.HAMS at gmail.com
