Queen City Triathlon:? Sunday, July 14, Caesar Creek State Park Beach and surrounding area. 7am--noon (Pretty much the same as last year, if you were a part of it, except that they wish to have us provide coverage of the running portion - 5K One lap, 10K Two laps) I apologize for not getting this notice out sooner, it's less than two weeks away. We need over two dozen hams to make this happen. I have the plan from last year and I expect that we will repeat it with the addition of a couple of people on the run route. Last year we used the XWARN repeater (147.165 +offset 123.0 Hz RTone). It covers the course pretty well, but you will need a slightly better antenna than the typical one that comes with an HT. Mobile set ups should be fine. More info, soon. Let me know as soon as possible if you can help. Bob Baker N8ADO n8ado at woh.rr.com Also... Volunteer sign ups for the Air Force Marathon are running a bit behind where we would like to see them. Please sign up if you haven't yet. Event is Saturday, Sept 21, but registration closes in August (to allow time for security checks). New listing, old event:? Abi Khan Horse Endurance Challenge, Saturday Aug 17 and Sunday Aug 18. More info, soon. Fun and different! Big event, needs lots of help: Young's Charity Bike Ride, Saturday Sept 7. Another big bike ride: Tour de Gem, Saturday, August 31. New place--DayAir Park; involves Dragon's Game. More to come. If you have already set up Winlink, it only takes a few minutes to get started, then barely a minute each week to check in. If you're not already on Winlink, my understanding is that will be the subject of tonight's presentation at the XWARN meeting - getting started with Winlink. The only requirement is that you have a valid amateur radio license and a computer with Internet connection. When you have your account set up, send a message to W8GCA to get more information on the weekly net - free for the asking, no strings attached! 73, Mark Avery, KE8NHT GCARES Winlink Net Control (this week, anyway) -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Unfortunately, neither our communications trailer nor the BAT will be part of our exhibit (although the BAT may be there also). The trailer is in use now through Sunday and again next Saturday for two events. There is no practical way to get the trailer in place after Saturday, July 27, and no way to get it out again until Sunday, August 3. Having the comm trailer at the fair would mean it couldn't be used for the events the next two weekends. We will instead have our new equipment and storage trailer, two 8' tables, two (maybe three) Easy-Ups, the handouts we have used in the past, and whatever items people bring to set up demonstrations. I'll get the trailer in place on Saturday. I plan to bring some gear to have at least some radio capability on site. Not sure exactly what we'll be able to do without any of our usual infrastructure, but it should be akin to a Field Day station without the long HF dipoles, HTs, maybe a couple of computer monitors, etc. Great ideas welcome!! Anything we can do to draw in some of the younger fair participants to ham radio is great. I plan to be there most of the week. I also have three Courtesy Pass tickets for those who would like to help staff the exhibit. Please let me know if you plan to be there and when. Technically, I think each pass is supposed to be issued to one person for the week, but I've never seen anyone check to see if the name matches anything. I plan to have at least one radio up on the XWARN repeater. If you don't have a pass and want to get into the fair, call me there or on 937-212-9420. Bring chairs and whatever else you can set up to make the exhibit interesting! 73, Mark Avery, KE8NHT -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... URL:
